Michael's Masterclass |

Or just give him a bike, push him down a hill and see where he ends up.

It may have been sometime but at Easter when Mike came back from university in Bath he asked a very silly question: "Can I come up for a ride with you?" Of course we would oblige but hindsight is a wonderful thing. By the end of the day he would be wrapped in hot towels struggling to move his leg. So with some enthusiasm we (Michael,Oli and myself [Richard]) set the pedals turning and headed towards Scotly. Mike had the clear advantage going up on Oli's lightly built Marin B-17. |

However the B-17 had one major disadvantage the headlock bolt hit the tyre whem the fork compressed. So, to avoid ripped tyres, We put him on my bike. He strted off well on my hardtail but even after our constant reminding of not to look at trees he got distracted.Off the jump a nasty piece of wood (a.k.a. a tree) caught him off gaurd and he came flighing off the jump straight into the tree.
After afew grunts grunts and grones he was up again but still complaining of a sore leg. We decided it would be best to go round some other tracks rather than push our luck. Bike swapping commenced and fun was to be had |

The rest of the day was fairly uneventful, but enjoyable, until we got back home and mike right leg ceased to move. This graually got better but took a good few weeks to heal up properly (he'd even go himself back to uni).
There should be a moral to this story. Maybe it's to wear armor or to not throw yourself in at the deep end. But I think it goes to the saying: "Don't look at the tree." |
